Economic and corruption investigations in Bolivia

Overview

In Potosí, authorities are investigating ECEBOL following reports of an alleged $17 million economic loss. The manager of SEDEM, Roberto Justiniano, announced plans to request an investigation by the Attorney General, noting that ECEBOL ended 2025 with a negative result of 56 million Bolivianos. This situation has coincided with threats of civic strikes by the Comcipo committee regarding regional infrastructure and industrial demands.

Concurrently, the Vice Ministry of Transparency has filed criminal complaints against former public officials for illicit enrichment and money laundering. Investigations uncovered a corruption scheme in the Potosí Regional Customs office where officials allegedly accepted bribes to facilitate the passage of contraband trucks. Additionally, former officials at the National Textile Service (Senatex) are accused of embezzling more than Bs 4.5 million from the National General Treasury into personal bank accounts.

Further legal actions have been initiated by the Potosí municipal administration through the Autonomous Administration for Sanitary Works (AAPOS). Legal proceedings have been ordered against six former officials following allegations of negligence concerning water supply projects and the suspected illegal sale of water resources to mining operations.
