Bolivian government and bakers agree to maintain bread prices
The Bolivian government and representatives of the baking sector have reached a temporary agreement to prevent an increase in bread prices. The goal is to maintain the reference price of 0.80 Bolivianos in cities where this rate applies.
To achieve this, both parties will conduct a detailed review of production cost structures. The government, through the Ministry of Sustainable Production, Environment, and Water, and the State Food Production Support Company (EMAPA), aims to identify measures to reduce these costs. This roadmap includes a strengthening plan for both independent and federated bakers, provided they are legally constituted.
EMAPA manager Sergio Siles Sánchez announced that the plan will include selling flour at a fair price to help stabilize costs. Additionally, a digital tool called Geopan will be used to locate bakers and monitor commercial prices across different regions. Municipalities have also been called upon to coordinate permanent price controls for bread and other essential food basket items.
