Colombian dollar slides to three‑year low, lifting importers
Since mid‑May 2026 the US dollar’s price in Colombia has fallen sharply, sliding from around 4,000 pesos to roughly 3,300 pesos per dollar. By July 26 the currency had lost about 710 pesos, a 17.8 % decline, and fell below 3,210 pesos – a level not seen since 2019.
Javier Díaz, president of the National Association of Foreign Trade (Analdex), said the depreciation cuts exporters’ earnings while benefitting importers, travelers and borrowers with dollar‑denominated debt. He added that each 100‑peso appreciation saves the government about 600 million pesos in external‑debt service. The official exchange rate (TRM) for Friday, July 25 2026 was set at 3,210.56 pesos per dollar, confirming the continued downward trend.
