Bolivia's José Luis Lupo Rumored for OAS Representative Post
Bolivian government spokesperson José Luis Gálvez told La Razón that reports of minister José Luis Lupo being appointed as Bolivia’s representative to the Organization of American States are “speculation.” Under Article 160 of the constitution, such a designation must be approved by the Legislative Assembly after a nomination from the Executive, and no official request has been submitted.
Rumors that Lupo may leave the Ministry of the Presidency intensified over the weekend, following earlier speculation about his resignation. Lupo declined to confirm or deny the reports, saying internal moves are occurring but he prefers to wait before commenting. He has served as Minister of the Presidency since November 2025 after being nominated by President Rodrigo Paz and previously ran for vice‑presidency with the Alliance Unidad. The speculation emerges amid tensions between President Paz and Alliance leader Samuel Doria Medina.
No definitive decision has been announced, and the appointment, if it proceeds, would require legislative ratification.
