Bollate Prison inaugurates renovated music room for inmate education
A newly renovated music room was inaugurated on September 30 at the VII Department of the Bollate Prison in Milan. The space is designed to support musical, educational, and therapeutic activities for inmates, serving as a venue for rehearsals and instrument learning.
The project, coordinated by legal-pedagogical official Simona Gallo, aims to provide stability to educational programs that previously relied on inmate tutors, which faced continuity issues due to prisoner transfers and releases. Through a partnership with the Fondazione Antonio Carlo Monzino, the initiative now involves stable participation from qualified professionals and volunteers.
The renovation included soundproofing, system upgrades, new lighting, and climate control. The project has been supported by various entities, including the Fondazione Monte di Lombardia and Mitsubishi Electric, and has been bolstered by the Associazione Milano Musica since 2017.
