Bologna authorizes early heating activation due to temperature drop

The Municipality of Bologna has issued an ordinance authorizing the optional use of heating systems starting Tuesday, October 27. This decision anticipates the standard start date of November 1 to protect vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and children, from a significant drop in temperatures.

Under the new regulations, heating systems may be operated for a maximum of seven hours per day between the hours of 5:00 and 23:00. This measure serves as a derogation from the regional anti-smog plan (Pair 2030) implemented by the Emilia-Romagna region, which had originally postponed heating activation to mitigate the impact of diesel vehicle restrictions.

Residents are encouraged to use heating selectively during the coldest periods to balance comfort with energy conservation. Following the initial period, domestic heating may continue until April 15, with an increased limit of 13 hours per day, provided indoor temperatures remain within prescribed limits to support national energy-saving strategies.
