Bologna launches initiative to include visually impaired youth in parish centers
A new initiative has launched in Bologna to improve the inclusion of visually impaired youth within parish youth centers (oratori). The project follows a request from the Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted (Uici) to address the lack of necessary skills among community managers to host young people with visual disabilities.
A training session for operators of the Associazione nazionale San Paolo Italia (Aspi) was held at the Cavazza Institute for the Blind to mark the first step of this program. Mario Barbuto, the national president of Uici, stated that the goal is to transform these important social hubs into spaces where the community can grow alongside people with visual impairments, overcoming the fears of families and the uncertainty of managers.
