Bologna marks 46th anniversary of 1980 train‑station bombing FAST-MOVING
On 2 August 1980 a bomb detonated in the second‑class waiting hall of Bologna’s central railway station at 10:25 a.m., killing 85 people and wounding more than 200. The attack, later attributed to the neofascist terrorist group Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari, is regarded as the deadliest post‑war terrorist act in Italy.
In 2026 the city held its 46th‑year remembrance. A minute of silence was observed at the exact time of the explosion, a public march moved from Piazza Nettuno along Via Indipendenza to the station, and a floral installation of 85 white gerberas was displayed on the façade of the Teatro Arena del Sole. Mayor Matteo Lepore, regional president Michele de Pascale, interior subsecretary Nicola Molteni and President Sergio Mattarella attended. Paolo Lambertini, president of the association of victims’ families, urged that the judicially established truth be fully told.
