Bologna police identify suspect in antisemitic graffiti and Meloni threat

Bologna police have identified a 23-year-old French national as a primary suspect in a series of vandalism incidents involving antisemitic graffiti and threats against Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The acts occurred during the night of August 4-5 in several central streets, including Vicolo Bianchetti, Piazza Aldrovandi, and Strada Maggiore.

One specific piece of graffiti depicted Meloni with a firearm pointed at her head. Other markings included antisemitic slogans, anarchist symbols, and anti-law enforcement messages. Following a report from a citizen, investigators from the DIGOS division identified seven French nationals, all aged 23, staying in an apartment on Viale Carducci shortly after the incidents.

Three individuals were linked to the vandalism in Vicolo Bianchetti; two have since returned to France, while the third suspect remains in Italy. Authorities identified the primary suspect through surveillance footage, noting he was wearing a prominent football team's jersey. During a search, police seized a helmet, backpack, shoes, and a mobile phone. The suspect reportedly has a prior record for property damage and defacement.
