60‑year‑old tourist rescued after three‑kilometre drift by current off Acireale
A 60‑year‑old tourist was swept by a strong sea current from the Capomulini area to the Timpa di Acireale, covering roughly three kilometres. Friends, unable to locate her after about two hours, alert the emergency number. The Capitaneria di Porto launched a search, and Polizia di Stato agents on jet‑skis located her among the rocks after an hour of intensive patrol. The woman, who suffered minor abrasions from striking the rocks, was lifted onto the jet‑ski and taken to the shore where ambulance personnel provided medical care.
The coordinated response of the port authority, police and health services prevented a potentially fatal outcome, with the tourist remaining in stable condition after the rescue.
