Bologna prosecutors investigate medical malpractice in student's death
Prosecutors in Bologna are investigating potential medical malpractice following the death of 19-year-old student Alberto Cremonini. Cremonini was struck by a car on a pedestrian crossing on July 2 near Liceo Righi after completing his high school oral exams.
While a 59-year-old driver is currently under investigation for road homicide, authorities are now examining whether medical complications contributed to his death. Cremonini spent 45 days in the hospital before passing away on August 16 at Sant’Orsola hospital, after being transferred from Maggiore hospital due to worsening conditions.
Public Prosecutor Tommaso Pierini has appointed an anesthesia and resuscitation specialist, Andrea De Gasperi, to assist forensic pathologist Luca Diani in reviewing the clinical records, administered therapies, and autopsy results. Investigators are specifically looking into whether a respiratory issue developed during his hospitalization. The Cremonini family has appointed legal counsel and technical consultants to assist in the ongoing inquiry.
