Bologna, Turin open museum climate shelters, free entry during heatwave

The municipality of Bologna expanded its network of public climate shelters by adding four new venues – the Renzo Renzi Library, Casa Gialla neighbourhood centre, the Archaeological Museum’s exhibition hall and the courtyard of Palazzo d’Accursio – bringing the total to 28 sites that offer free, air‑conditioned or shaded space for residents during extreme July temperatures. The initiative is part of Bologna Missione Clima and follows standards for accessibility, water supply and sanitation, but does not provide medical care.

In Turin, three major museums – the GAM, Palazzo Madama and the Museum of Asian Arts (Mao) – have been opened as climate refuges for the month of July. Organized by the Fondazione Torino Musei and the city, they offer free entry for people over 65 and for children up to 12, giving vulnerable citizens a cool environment to rest and socialize while the heatwave persists.
