Pigneto mobility hub: Railway service resumes in Rome

Railway service between Roma Tiburtina and Roma Ostiense has resumed following a 31-day planned suspension in August. The stoppage allowed Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) to complete a major phase of construction for the new Pigneto station.

Key achievements during this period include the installation of the second track for the FL1 and FL3 lines, the completion of foundation structures, and progress on the pedestrian underpass that will connect the station to Metro C. The project, known as the ‘Pigneto Interchange Hub’, represents a total investment of approximately 230 million euros.

Rome’s Mobility Assessor, Eugenio Patané, stated that the station will serve as a strategic connection point between rail and metro, providing a viable alternative to car use. The station is expected to become operational between late 2026 and early 2027. Further short-term service interruptions are scheduled from September 19 to 21 to allow for technological installations and finishing works.
