Bolsa Família benefits to increase in Brazil to offset inflation

The Brazilian government has announced an adjustment to the Bolsa Família social welfare program to preserve the purchasing power of its beneficiaries against inflation. Starting in October, the minimum benefit will increase from R$ 600 to R$ 691, while the estimated average benefit is expected to rise from R$ 675 to R$ 777. This 15.04% adjustment corresponds to the accumulated inflation measured by the INPC.

For the month of September, Caixa Econômica Federal has begun payments to 19.29 million families, with beneficiaries holding a Social Registration Number (NIS) ending in 7 receiving funds on Friday. The average benefit for September stands at R$ 678.18. Additionally, specific supplements are provided for pregnant women, children, and infants to support nutrition and health.

Analysts have noted that these adjustments, alongside other government measures like the Desenrola 3.0 debt renegotiation program, are occurring close to elections. Some political experts suggest these moves could be perceived as electoral opportunism, despite the intended social benefits and the significant cost to the public treasury.
