Brazil 2026 Bolsa Família and Social Benefit Payments
Overview
The September 2026 payment schedules for Brazil’s Bolsa Família and Pé-de-Meia programs have been confirmed. Bolsa Família disbursements, managed by Caixa Econômica Federal, are scheduled to run from September 17 through September 30, distributed according to the final digit of the beneficiary's Social Identification Number (NIS). Payments begin on the 17th for those with a NIS ending in 1. Funds can be accessed via the Caixa Tem app, debit cards, or biometric withdrawals at ATMs. The program maintains a R$ 600 floor per family, supplemented by modular additions for children under six, pregnant women, and dependents aged 7 to 17.
To support families transitioning into employment, the ‘Protection Rule’ allows families with a per capita income up to R$ 706 to receive 50% of their usual benefit amount for up to 12 months. Recent procedural changes following Law No. 15.077/2024 now allow families receiving Bolsa Família to apply for the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC) for the elderly or people with disabilities without immediately suspending their current transfers. This adjustment was developed through collaboration between the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, the INSS, the Attorney General's Office, and the Public Defender's Office.
Looking toward 2026, eligibility thresholds are being adjusted alongside a minimum wage of R$ 1,621. Families in extreme poverty are defined by a monthly per capita income of up to R$ 218, while those in poverty fall between R$ 218.01 and R$ 654. For the Pé-de-Meia student incentive program, ‘Incentivo-Frequência’ installments of R$ 200 will be distributed between September 21 and September 28, organized by the student's month of birth.
