Bolsa Família updates payment schedule and protection rules

The Bolsa Família program in Brazil has established specific guidelines for its September payment schedule and updated its 'Protection Rule' to support families transitioning into employment.

Payments for September begin on the 17th for beneficiaries with a Social Identification Number (NIS) ending in 1, continuing through the end of the month based on the final digit of the NIS. Managed by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger, and operated by Caixa Econômica Federal, funds can be accessed via the Caixa Tem app, debit cards, or biometric withdrawals at ATMs.

Additionally, the program’s Protection Rule provides a financial safety net for families whose household income increases due to new employment. To prevent the sudden loss of benefits, the rule allows families with a per capita income up to R$ 706 to receive 50% of their usual benefit amount for up to 12 months. This mechanism is designed to provide budget predictability and encourage formal employment without the immediate risk of losing government support.
