Bolsonaro family poised for alliance as ex‑president backs Michelle and Flávio

Deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante, leader of the Liberal Party (PL) in Brazil's Chamber of Deputies, said on Friday that former president Jair Bolsonaro will intervene to secure an alliance between his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, and his son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, for a joint presidential campaign. Cavalcante described the current dispute between the couple as “temporary” and insisted they will “walk together.” He added that the alliance will be facilitated by Bolsonaro himself. The remarks came amid reports that Michelle, who recently stepped down as head of PL Mulher following tensions with Flávio, is considering withdrawing from a Senate race. Party president Valdemar Costa Neto is said to be mediating the family’s differences. Cavalcante quoted Bolsonaro’s envisioned role: “A aliança entre Michelle e Flávio se dará pelo próprio presidente Bolsonaro.”
