Jair Bolsonaro to give in‑person testimony on seized pistol

Brazilian Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized the Polícia Civil of the Federal District to take a deposition from former president Jair Bolsonaro about a 9 mm Glock pistol registered in his name. The weapon was seized during a police blitz in Taguatinga, Brasília, on 15 June while being transported by a military officer from the Gabinete de Segurança Institucional (GSI). Moraes rejected the request for a remote video‑conference and ordered that Bolsonaro appear in person at his residence on 23 June. He also required the defense to specify whether a health professional will accompany Bolsonaro at night and whether his security detail is withdrawn after hours.

The investigation focuses on the lack of the mandatory firearm registration certificate at the time of transport and on whether the incident violates the conditions of Bolsonaro’s house‑arrest. Bolsonaro’s lawyers argue the pistol was non‑functional, sent for repair, and that the security team removed the firing pin because his psychiatric medication could affect his cognition. The outcome of the testimony could affect Bolsonaro’s custodial status and any further legal actions against him.
