Bolsonaro's defense urges STF to keep house arrest
Lawyers for former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro filed a petition with Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes asking that his house arrest be maintained. The petition argues that Bolsonaro did not commit a serious disciplinary offense in the incident involving a firearm seized from one of his private security guards. It cites a police report confirming the weapon was legally registered, the lack of any criminal intent, and a recent opinion from the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) that also supports continuation of the house arrest.
The defense also references Bolsonaro’s health condition, noting his recent recovery from bacterial pneumonia and previous surgery that led to a temporary 90‑day home confinement after his 27‑year prison sentence for a coup‑plot case. The 90‑day period ended on 25 May, and the lawyers seek an extension rather than a return to the Papudinha prison in Brasília.
