Jair Bolsonaro's Glock seized in DF blitz, STF orders 24‑hour defense response

Police from the Distrito Federal seized a 9 mm Glock pistol registered in the name of former president Jair Bolsonaro during a routine traffic stop in the Pistão Norte area of Taguatinga on the night of 15 June. The weapon, along with a spare magazine, was found in a vehicle driven by an Army sergeant who identified himself as part of the Gabinete de Segurança Institucional (GSI) and said he was transporting the gun for mechanical repair. Bolsonaro is serving a 27‑year prison sentence under house arrest.

Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered Bolsonaro’s defense to provide explanations within 24 hours on why the ex‑president kept the firearm at home, why an extra magazine was present, and why the gun was sent for repair just before the end of his 90‑day humanitarian house‑arrest period. He also asked the commander of the 19th Police Battalion to confirm that vehicle searches of Bolsonaro’s cars are being fully carried out.

The Police Civil opened an inquiry to investigate the legality of the temporary possession, transport and documentation of the firearm. Bolsonaro’s lawyers subsequently confirmed that the Glock is properly registered to him, holds a valid certificate, and was taken for repair after a malfunctioning trigger was detected. They argued that the possession does not violate any court order, noting that the conviction did not require the surrender of his weapons.
