Bolzano man dies after fall into Barbiano waterfall in Valle Isarco
A 59‑year‑old resident of Bolzano was killed on 24 May 2026 after slipping on a trail and falling into the lower Barbiano waterfall in Valle Isarco, South Tyrol. The accident was witnessed by people on the trail who raised the alarm shortly after noon. Volunteer fire brigades, the Alpine rescue service, and specialised water‑recovery teams responded, using the Pelikan 2 helicopter to retrieve the victim from the torrent.
Medical personnel attempted resuscitation after the body was brought to safety, but the man was already deceased. Authorities have collected statements from witnesses and are investigating the incident as an accidental fall. The victim’s identity has not been released.
