Bong Joon Ho’s The Host returns to theaters in 4K

The 2006 South Korean creature feature The Host, directed by Bong Joon Ho, is returning to theaters worldwide in a newly remastered 4K resolution to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

In the United States, Magnolia Pictures will handle the re-release. The theatrical event includes an exclusive recorded conversation between Bong Joon Ho and director Edgar Wright. The original film, which follows a family’s attempt to rescue a daughter snatched by a mutant creature in Seoul’s Han River, was a massive domestic success in South Korea, selling over thirteen million tickets during its initial run.

The cast features Song Kang-ho, Ko A-sung, Byun Hee-bong, Park Hae-il, and Bae Doona. While specific screening dates for Italy have not been announced, the international re-release marks a significant milestone for the film that preceded Bong’s later global successes like Snowpiercer and Parasite.
