Brasília documentary series explores city's cultural symbols
A new five-episode documentary series titled ‘Brasília é Cultura’ has been released on YouTube to explore the cultural and architectural symbols of Brasília. Produced by Instituto CEDHUC in partnership with the Secretaria de Cultura e Economia Criativa, the series examines the history and daily life within the city’s UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The first episode focuses on the Teatro Nacional Cláudio Santoro, detailing its closure in 2013, a decade of popular mobilization for its recovery, and the eventual reopening of the Sala Martins Pena in December 2024. The production features accounts from managers, civil servants, musicians, and dancers, including the participation of the Teatro Nacional Cláudio Santoro Symphony Orchestra.
Subsequent episodes will cover other significant cultural landmarks, including Cine Brasília, which focuses on audience formation and diversity; the Centro de Dança, highlighting various dance manifestations and community mobilization; the Planaltina Cultural Complex, discussing the decentralization of cultural policies; and the Museu Nacional da República.
