Bonitsa forest fire prompts large firefighting response in Greece

On July 10, authorities sounded an alarm after a fire broke out in a farm‑forest area near the village of Panagia in the Bonitsa region. Nineteen firefighters, a foot patrol from the 5th EMODE unit, and multiple fire engines were dispatched, while four fire‑fighting aircraft conducted continuous water drops to contain the blaze. The flames have not yet threatened residential buildings or infrastructure, but emergency crews remain on high alert as conditions are evaluated.

The investigation unit for arson crimes in Lefkada has been assigned to determine the cause of the fire. Efforts continue to delineate the perimeter and prevent further spread.

No casualties have been reported.
