Bono East Region expands teacher training infrastructure
Educational infrastructure in Ghana’s Bono East Region is receiving significant upgrades to address long-standing overcrowding and capacity issues in teacher training.
Atebubu College of Education (ATECOE) has faced a chronic shortage of lecture halls and accommodation, forcing students and tutors to endure a grueling schedule with lectures running from 6am to 9pm. To alleviate this, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has approved an infrastructure package for the 60-year-old institution to provide new lecture facilities and relief for the campus.
Additionally, the construction of the St. Dominic College of Education in Tuobodom is underway. Developed in partnership with the Catholic Diocese, this new facility aims to increase tertiary enrollment and provide local training opportunities for students in the Techiman North and South areas, reducing the need for students to travel long distances for teacher training.
