Boohoo fined 2.33 million euros for deceptive practices

British online clothing retailer Boohoo has been fined 2.33 million euros for deceptive commercial practices, according to the French Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF).

An investigation into hundreds of products on boohoo.com revealed that 95% of the examined promotions were non-compliant. Specifically, 40% of the sale advertisements offered no actual price reduction, 7% offered smaller discounts than advertised, and 48% actually involved price increases. The DGCCRF noted these practices were designed to mislead consumers into believing they were securing good deals.

Additionally, the company was sanctioned for labeling violations, such as using terms like ‘leather’, ‘faux leather’, or ‘suede’ to describe synthetic products, which is prohibited. The company has accepted the sanction, which was proposed with the agreement of the Paris Public Prosecutor.
