Boonji Spaceman sculpture installed at Zagreb Airport
The seven-meter-tall sculpture ‘Boonji Spaceman’ by American artist Brendan Murphy has been installed in front of the Dr. Franjo Tuđman International Airport in Zagreb. The artwork, valued at over $1 million, is scheduled to be on display for one year.
U.S. Ambassador to Croatia Nicole McGraw stated that the piece symbolizes cultural cooperation and friendship between Croatia and the United States. The sculpture, which features a dark blue space suit covered in white symbols and formulas, is intended to represent human curiosity and the courage to embrace the unknown.
Artist Brendan Murphy, who recently installed a similar work on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., noted that the installation aims to connect people and serve as a landmark. David Gabelica, Chairman of the Board of Zagreb Airport, described the installation as a symbol of optimism and imagination.
