Boranka campaign to reforest Trogir wildfire site

The Boranka campaign, described as Europe’s largest volunteer reforestation initiative, will hold two major planting events this weekend at a wildfire site in Plano near Trogir, Croatia. Approximately 370 volunteers are expected to participate in the efforts.

South Korean Ambassador Seungbuhm Lee is scheduled to join the Saturday session. The campaign is supported by the Scout Association of the Republic of Korea. Organizers include the Croatian Scout Association, Hrvatske šume, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, and the Directorate of Civil Protection, with local support from the City of Trogir and the Red Cross.

Following recommendations from forestry experts, volunteers will plant only indigenous species, including a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees such as Quercus ilex, Fraxinus excelsior, cypress, and Aleppo pine. To date, the Boranka campaign has mobilized over 13,600 volunteers and planted more than 140,000 trees across various wildfire sites in the Split, Solin, Makarska, Trogir, Zadar, and Šibenik regions.
