Boranka campaign reforestation efforts
Overview
The Boranka campaign, described as “Europe’s largest volunteer reforestation initiative,” has expanded its efforts to restore areas damaged by wildfires.
In early October, the campaign organized planting events in Plano near Trogir, Croatia. Supported by various organizations including the Croatian Scout Association and the Directorate of Civil Protection, the initiative focused on planting indigenous deciduous and coniferous species. During the Trogir events, approximately 370 volunteers participated, with support from the South Korean Scout Association and the attendance of South Korean Ambassador Seungbuhm Lee. To date, the campaign has mobilized over 13,600 volunteers to plant more than 140,000 trees across several Croatian regions.
By mid-October, reforestation efforts extended to the Blidinje Nature Park in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through the “Return Greenery to Blidinje” initiative, volunteers worked to restore areas damaged by a 2022 wildfire. The project was completed in two phases on October 17 and October 24, involving approximately 400 participants including students, hikers, firefighters, and members of various scout organizations. The effort also received significant institutional support from 90 employees of the Supreme Court and the Judicial Police of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A total of 5,000 saplings, including fir, spruce, and maple, were planted to complete the park restoration.
