Bordeaux Girondins ownership talks stall over Sparta Capital terms

Sparta Capital, a British investment fund, is negotiating to acquire a 67% stake in FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Bordeaux Metropole, represented by deputy mayor Thomas Cazenave, has raised serious concerns over the deal. The city demands transparent financial guarantees, rejects Sparta’s proposed acquisition of the Matmut Atlantique stadium and the Haillan training complex on the condition of long‑term options, and opposes a 60% reduction in stadium rent that would cost the public purse an estimated €800,000 a year. Metropole also seeks recovery of roughly €20 million in unpaid lease fees from the current owners, Jogo Bonito Group and Gérard Lopez. The club, recently relegated to the Championnat National and placed under a debt‑restructuring plan that stripped its professional status, requires a stable owner approved by the football financial watchdog DNCG. negotiations remain unresolved.
