Viticulture professionals manage seasonal challenges and weather impacts
Viticulture professionals are navigating challenging seasonal conditions and technical requirements to ensure grape quality. In the Bordeaux region, precise vine pruning remains a critical task for horticulturists. This process is essential for maintaining vineyard vitality, managing vegetative growth, and protecting crops against diseases such as oidium and wood diseases. Technical choices regarding pruning methods, such as goblet or cordon, directly influence yield, parasite resistance, and the long-term longevity of the vines.
In other regions, such as Coiffy-le-Haut, winemakers are facing highly irregular harvest seasons. At Domaine Renaut, the harvest began exceptionally early on August 18 due to rapid changes in acidity and high natural alcohol levels. However, extreme weather—including April frost, May hail, and June heatwaves—has resulted in a one-third reduction in yield. While the drought helped maintain excellent sanitary conditions for the grapes, it also prevented the berries from swelling, leading to smaller, more concentrated fruit.
