Bordeaux wine growers say 2026 vintage untouched by Gironde megafire

The Union des grands crus de Bordeaux (UGCB) said the 2026 vintage will be unaffected by the recent megafire that burned about 42,000 hectares in western Gironde. It reported that no vines have been damaged and "no impact on the quality of the grapes" or taste has been observed.

The fire started near Saumos and mainly affected the north and northeast of the Arcachon basin and the outskirts of Bordeaux, sparing the major estates of Médoc and Graves. UGCB expressed support for the affected communities, noting the mobilization of viticulturists, while the Conseil interprofessionnel du vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) described the blaze as unprecedented in its violence.
