Wildfires in the Var region have burned over 6,000 hectares since late July, heightening fears of “smoke taint.” In the Rhône Valley, harvesting has accelerated following early picking in certain sectors on 11 August. Despite facing the warmest spring ever recorded in France, Philippe Pellaton, president of Inter Rhône, noted that the vines have shown resilience and the “sanitary state of the grapes is excellent.”

As the industry manages these climatic challenges, it is also preparing for the 2026 wine fairs (Foire aux vins) in September and October. These promotional events are viewed as vital for a sector facing a crisis of structural declines in consumption and rising production costs, with major retailers scheduling promotions to help domains move excess stock.
