Bordumsa electoral roll revision hearing disrupted by violence

Violence erupted in Bordumsa, Arunachal Pradesh, during a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing of electoral rolls. The incident, which occurred at the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, involved clashes, stone-pelting, and damage to government property and vehicles. Reports indicate that injuries were sustained during the confrontation, and there were unconfirmed accounts of firing.

Chakma organizations stated that applicants had gathered peacefully before the situation deteriorated, alleging that security personnel used tear gas to disperse the crowd. They have urged restraint and requested that the incident not be viewed through a communal lens.

In response to the violence, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has demanded the immediate suspension of the SIR exercise in areas inhabited by Chakma and Hajong voters. AAPSU president Meje Taku reported that an activist was injured and claimed members of the union were attacked. The organization has called for the arrest of those responsible and has scheduled a meeting for September 12 to determine further action regarding the interests of indigenous people and concerns over illegal immigration.
