Borgosesia copper theft leads to two arrests

Two residents of Gattinara were arrested by the Carabinieri Forestale following the theft of nearly 200 kilograms of copper wire in the Torame area of Borgosesia. The incident occurred near a disused warehouse in an old quarry zone.

Law enforcement officers intercepted the suspects in a vehicle, leading to a dangerous high-speed chase before the individuals were apprehended. Authorities seized the stolen copper, which has a high commercial value, along with the tools used to commit the crime. The theft was estimated to have yielded a profit of several thousand euros on the black market.

A judge in Vercelli validated the arrests, ordering the suspects to report daily to the Gattinara Carabinieri station. Local authorities noted that copper theft is a growing criminal phenomenon targeting transport, energy, and telecommunications sectors, as well as churches, cemeteries, and construction sites.
