Boričevac WWII Massacre Remembrance Marks 85th Anniversary of 1941 Uprising

A ceremony was held in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Boričevac, Croatia, to mark the Day of Remembrance for civilians killed in 1941. Participants prayed, walked in procession and laid wreaths at a monument honoring the victims of the World War II massacre that followed the uprising in nearby Srbi on 27 July 1941.

The village was burned and looted, its residents expelled, and an estimated 300 local Croats – including women and children – were killed between 1941 and 1945. Descendant Marko Pavelić spoke about his family’s forced displacement, while historian and association member Pero Šola highlighted the scale of the atrocities. The event coincided with the 85th anniversary of the Srbi uprising, also noted by the Serbian National Council with a scholarly forum.
