July 27 1941 uprising commemorations

In late July 2026, several Balkan states marked the 85th anniversary of the World War II partisan uprising that began on 27 July 1941. Bosnia and Herzegovina held an official ceremony noting the day’s historic significance and highlighted how neighboring countries treat the legacy differently—Croatia no longer observes the holiday, Montenegro marks a related 13 July event, and Slovenia has replaced its former July 22 celebration with an April 27 “Day of Resistance”.

The following day, a ceremony in Boričevac, Croatia, honored civilians killed in a massacre that followed the same uprising.
