Bornheim: Dog owner flees after attacking elderly cyclist

A 77-year-old man was injured during a dog attack in Bornheim, North Rhine-Westphalia. While cycling on Maarpfad, the man was knocked off his bike by a leashed dog and subsequently bitten multiple times.

The dog's owner reportedly failed to intervene or provide first aid, instead fleeing the scene immediately after the incident. A witness alerted emergency services, and paramedics treated the man's wounds before transporting him to a hospital for further medical care.

The Bonn Police Criminal Investigation Department has launched an investigation to locate the fleeing owner and the animal. Under North Rhine-Westphalia's State Dog Act, authorities may impose leash or muzzle requirements if the animal is classified as dangerous.
