Bornholms Regionskommune implements strict budget discipline

Bornholms Regionskommune (BRK) is implementing new fiscal measures to address long-term debt and budget management. For the 2027 budget, the municipality has established a principle that no supplementary appropriations will be granted from the municipal treasury. If a specific area requires additional funding, an equivalent saving must be identified within the existing budget to maintain economic discipline.

As of the beginning of 2027, BRK’s long-term debt stands at approximately 526.2 million DKK. While the municipality plans to take on 24.2 million DKK in new loans for energy-saving projects, harbor renovations, and other initiatives, it expects to repay 37.9 million DKK during the year. This is projected to reduce the long-term debt to 512.5 million DKK by year-end.

When including a debt of approximately 130.3 million DKK owed to Lønmodtagernes Feriemidler, the total long-term debt obligation is expected to reach nearly 643 million DKK by the end of 2027. The municipality aims for a continuous reduction in debt, with a budgeted long-term debt target of 433.5 million DKK by the end of 2030.
