Borno, Nigeria sees insurgent family surrenders during Operation Hadin Kai

A 16‑year‑old girl identified as Amina Ali fled a Boko Haram enclave in the Mandara Mountains of Gwoza, Borno State, and surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai on 30 July. She is being screened and held in military custody while authorities assess her case.

In a related incident, the wife of an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) chief finance officer and her 11‑year‑old son turned themselves in to the same operation on 29 July at Kusuma Village, following the husband’s surrender on 25 July. Both are undergoing profiling by the Nigerian Army.

The surrenders are presented by the army as evidence that sustained pressure from Operation Hadin Kai is weakening Boko Haram and ISWAP, leading to defections and the capture of collaborators and terrorist logistics in Borno State.
