Borno school attack leaves dozens of students missing, ten rescued

Armed militants suspected of belonging to ISWAP stormed Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira‑Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, while students were sitting NECO examinations. The attackers killed at least one teacher, wounded another and abducted a large number of pupils. Nigerian troops from Operation Hadin Kai, supported by ISR aircraft and air‑power, engaged the gunmen near Daggu and rescued ten victims – students and teachers – who were unharmed. The operation cost the lives of one soldier and one member of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

Local officials and parents have listed 36‑37 missing students, predominantly female (25) and male (11), along with at least one staff member. Youths protested a government delegation’s visit, demanding the immediate return of the abducted children. The Borno State government ordered the closure of schools in three affected communities and pledged continued security operations to locate the remaining captives.
