Borno State Governor reports 5,000 schools destroyed by insurgency
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum reported that over a decade of insurgency has destroyed more than 5,000 school structures, leaving an estimated 2.2 million children out of school at the height of the conflict. To address these challenges, the state has invested over N46 billion in basic and secondary education for the 2025-2026 fiscal years. During recent project commissions in Maiduguri, Zulum highlighted improvements in usable classrooms and sanitation facilities.
In political developments, Zulum stated that Northern Nigerian leaders have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 as part of a power-rotation understanding with Southern counterparts. This arrangement is intended to maintain national unity and political stability.
Supporting this political shift, a coalition of prominent Northern leaders has formed the ‘Arewa for Asiwaju’ (A4A) mobilization platform to campaign for Tinubu’s second term. Additionally, the Muslim Intellectuals Forum, representing approximately 500 women scholars and leaders from 19 northern states, has formally endorsed the President, citing achievements in security, infrastructure, and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
