Borno State Governor Zulum launches N1.05bn empowerment programme
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has launched a N1.05 billion empowerment programme aimed at supporting seven different groups in the Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere Local Government Areas. The initiative targets vulnerable populations, including youth groups, persons with physical disabilities, those with hearing or visual impairments, and individuals affected by leprosy, to boost economic opportunities as the state recovers from the Boko Haram conflict.
Separately, Governor Zulum addressed allegations regarding the arrest of individuals wearing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ T-shirts. He denied ordering any politically motivated detentions, stating he only learned of the arrests on a Friday morning. Zulum attributed the accusations to ‘desperate politicians’ ahead of the 2027 elections, maintaining that his focus remains on rebuilding Borno State rather than seeking elective office.
