Borno State parents threaten protest over 130-day school abductions
Parents and community members from Mussa and Lassa in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State have threatened to protest at the Presidential Villa in Abuja if their children are not rescued within six days. The children, including 44 from Mussa Ward and 36 from Lassa schools, have been held by insurgents for over 130 days following a wave of abductions that began on May 15, 2026.
During a protest, Ishaku Suya, the chairman of the parents, issued an emotional appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding the rescue of the children. Protesters expressed frustration over what they perceive as a disparity in government response, comparing the situation to the rescue of abducted students in Oyo State. Parents and community leaders are calling for the same level of urgency and operational capacity to be applied to the northeast to secure the release of the victims, many of whom are reported to be toddlers.
