Schoolchildren abductions in Borno State

Overview

In Borno State, parents and community members from the Askira/Uba Local Government Area have threatened to protest at the Presidential Villa in Abuja if their children are not rescued within six days. The group reported that 80 children, including 44 from Mussa Ward and 36 from Lassa schools, have been held by insurgents for over 130 days following abductions that began on May 15, 2026.

Parents expressed frustration regarding the government response, calling for the same level of urgency applied to other regions. Following these threats, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Borno State Chapter issued its own urgent call for the rescue of the 78 abducted schoolchildren and other captives. The CAN Chairman, Most Reverend John Bakeni, described the situation as a ‘cloud of uncertainty’ affecting the state.
