Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki Promotes Digital Twin and Local Clean Energy at EU Energy Cities Meeting

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki addressed the Energy Cities Board of Governors in an online meeting hosted from Brussels, presenting his municipality’s “Digital Twin” platform and a new 1.2 MW clean‑energy installation. He urged the EU to adopt direct local‑financing mechanisms that bypass central bureaucracy, arguing that municipalities need greater technical capacity and access to green finance.

Eşki also announced his intention to bring the next Energy Cities summit to Izmir, inviting international delegations to showcase Bornova’s projects. He cited examples from Ukraine’s Lviv and Sweden’s Viable Cities network on energy security during wartime, and called for EU budget provisions (2028‑2034) to support decentralized energy initiatives and combat energy poverty.
