Borsa İstanbul plunges as fund default concerns trigger circuit breaker
Borsa İstanbul experienced a severe downturn, with the BIST 100 index dropping by over 6 percent and triggering the market's circuit breaker. The decline brought the index down to the 13,000-point level.
Analysts attribute the sharp sell-off to liquidity concerns and developments in the fund market. Specifically, Pusula Portföy reported that some of its investment funds defaulted on redemption payments, causing widespread panic and significant capital outflows. Reports indicate approximately 129 billion TL has exited Pusula funds since late August.
In response to the volatility, CHP Group Chairman Faik Öztrak called upon regulatory bodies, including the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (TCMB), the Capital Markets Board (SPK), and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), to monitor the situation closely and take coordinated action to protect investors.
