Borsa Istanbul reshuffles BIST-100 index amid liquidity crisis

Borsa Istanbul is implementing a major reshuffle of its benchmark BIST-100 index, removing more than a quarter of its constituents. This move follows a liquidity crisis triggered by the sell-off of investment funds, which previously caused the index to drop approximately 8% in a single week.

Regulators have intervened to stabilize the market, including demanding the liquidation of certain investment funds and detaining individuals as part of an investigation into failed redemption requests. The exchange announced that Destek Finans and Katilimevim will be removed from the BIST-100, while Anadolu Grubu Holding and TAB Gida will return to the index.

Other companies, such as Esenboga Elektrik and Isiklar Enerji Yapi, will also be removed following the previous quarter's reshuffle. The market-wide circuit breaker was recently activated after the BIST-100 fell by 6%, a mechanism designed to halt trading and prevent panic during periods of high volatility.
