Boskalis awarded Zeevonk offshore wind farm cable contract

Boskalis has secured a contract from Zeevonk, a joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, to handle the transport and offshore installation of the inter-array cable system for Phase 1 of the Zeevonk Offshore Wind Farm. Located in the Dutch North Sea, approximately 45 nautical miles northwest of IJmuiden, the project is one of the largest offshore renewable energy developments in the Netherlands.

The scope of the contract involves the installation of roughly 149 kilometers of 66 kV inter-array cables to connect 69 wind turbines. Work will include cable testing, termination, and the installation of cable protection systems. Boskalis plans to use its cable-laying vessel, BOKA Ocean, to transport cables from the manufacturing facility in Eemshaven to the wind farm. Additionally, the company will utilize a subsea rock installation vessel for seabed intervention and conduct survey activities.

Phase 1 of the Zeevonk project is expected to have a commercial operation date in 2029. Once both phases are complete, the wind farm will reach a total installed capacity of approximately 2 GW.
