Bosnia and Herzegovina leaders call for strategic agricultural investment
Political leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina are calling for increased support for domestic agricultural production to ensure national security and economic stability. Nermin Ogrešević, President of the National European Alliance (NES), emphasized that food production must be treated as a strategic state interest to mitigate risks from global market disruptions, wars, and supply chain issues.
Ogrešević advocated for moving away from year-to-year incentive policies in favor of long-term, predictable subsidies. He highlighted the need for investments in modern production, irrigation systems, storage, and processing capacities to ensure domestic products remain competitive and reduce reliance on imports.
In Odžak, Denis Bećirović echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of protecting domestic producers and increasing agricultural investment. He noted that the fertile land in the Posavina region offers significant potential for production and job creation. Bećirović also highlighted that European integration will help modernize border crossings and simplify procedures, facilitating easier export and trade for local producers.
